Here are some additional <strong>facts and figures<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>July 1st: Prudhoe Bay, AK (70 degree North)<br \/>\nAugust 1st: Williams Lake, BC (52 degree North)<br \/>\nDistance travelled: 4027km<br \/>\nTime on bike: 220h<br \/>\nTotal elevation gain: 42300m<br \/>\nDays riding: 29<br \/>\nRest Days: 3<br \/>\nAverage daily distance: 139km<br \/>\nAverage daily ride time: 7.5h<br \/>\nAverage daily elevation gain: 1460m<br \/>\nAverage speed: 18.3km\/h<br \/>\nTop speed: 80.54km\/h<br \/>\nSunny and hot days: 30<br \/>\nCloudy and rainy days: 2<br \/>\nLongest day: 196km in 10.5h from Whitehorse to Teslin<br \/>\nShortest day: 70km in 4.5h from Hudson&#8217;s Hope to Chetwynd (semi rest day)<br \/>\nFlat tires: 6 (4 near Watson Lake within 24h period)<br \/>\nTotal weight of bike: 60kg <\/p>\n<p><strong>Memorable wildlife moments<\/strong>:<br \/>\n&#8211; Eagle taking off 10 m overhead (near Summit Lake, BC)<br \/>\n&#8211; Grizzly Bear crossing road 100m ahead (near Kluane Lake, YT)<br \/>\n&#8211; Bison on the road (South of Watson Lake, YT)<br \/>\n&#8211; Black Bear Sow with two cubs (North end of Muncho Lake park, BC)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other memorable items<\/strong>:<br \/>\n&#8211; Lots of very friendly and helpful people along the way<br \/>\n&#8211; Great riding in late evenings up North due to long daylight hours<br \/>\n&#8211; Good samaritans like Scott Mullin (spare tire) and many others<br \/>\n&#8211; Mosquitoes were annoying, but mostly manageable<br \/>\n&#8211; Headwind \/ no wind \/ tailwind  = 20% \/ 40% \/ 40% (estimated)<br \/>\n&#8211; Hills were harder than I anticipated (made worse due to bike weight)<br \/>\n&#8211; Best food: Fast Eddies in Tok, AK &#8211; Prime Rib special with all-you-can-eat salad bar \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\n&#8211; Biggest disappointment: Getting to town 5 mins after restaurants close<br \/>\n&#8211; Biggest mistake: Not replacing old back tire soon enough<br \/>\n&#8211; Could have ended badly: going downhill at 65km\/h with truck right behind, when 1&#8243; nail got into back tire&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Memorable weather phenomena<\/strong>:<br \/>\n&#8211; full double rainbow on bus ride up Dalton Hwy, AK<br \/>\n&#8211; midnight sun in AK the first three nights North of Arctic Circle<br \/>\n&#8211; asymmetric sun halo in Brooks Range, AK<br \/>\n&#8211; thunderstorms in Brooks Range and at Pine Pass, BC<br \/>\n&#8211; record breaking heat in Fairbanks, AK and in Southern BC<br \/>\n&#8211; heavy smoke from forest fires near Fairbanks, AK and later South of Williams Lake, BC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>July was a long and very hot month of bike riding through Alaska and Canada.
